“Give me again the joy of your help;”

As I prayed Psalm 51 in this morning’s Psalter, I was moved by the urgency in the psalmist’s voice, exhortingSeal of the Bishop God to be with him:

Give me the joy of your help;
with a spirit of fervor sustain me,
that I may teach transgressors your ways
and sinners may return to you.

This was my plea as well! After receiving our bishop’s Call to Orders earlier in the week, I felt both a sense of relief… and incredible anticipation. For all intensive purposes, our class assignments are behind us. As one of my fellow candidates quizzed me the other day: “Are you enjoying the first time in four years without classroom deadlines hanging over your head like the sword of damocles? I am!”

Well stated! With less than 8 days until ordination, being unburdened and open to the joy that comes from knowing that all of it is from Him… through Him… for Him. That is truly the joy that will sustain us as we each transition from laity to clergy and begin our ministries.
